Silverback
Here’s a link to the piece I did for today’s edition of The World.
My segment is on the re-release of a mobile-based video game called Silverback. The idea is to draw attention to the plight of mountain gorillas — only about 720 are left in the forests and national parks in Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. I interviewed Ken Banks, the creative force behind the game. I also spoke with Bruce Liggitt, Africa Program Coordinator for Fauna and Flora International, and Ian Bogost, game designer, professor and author of Persuasive Games: The Expressive Power of Video Games.
To get the full context of my segment, you should really listen to the one that preceeded it, by The World’s Jeb Sharp:
A Call to Implement Congo Peace Agreement
UPDATE: The Silverback game was written in J2ME

What language was used to build the game? Torque? Unity? What?
J2ME
Curt - Java (J2ME) is pretty much the only mass-market platform for writing games even now, and definitely that was the case in 2003 when i wrote it! There are a few more details here if you’re interested: http://www.masabi.com/scFFI.html
