FrontlineSMS
Working feverishly today on a piece (must finish in time to get to the airport for flight to Austin this evening) on FrontlineSMS. In particular, I’ll be looking at how Kubatana.net in Zimbabwe has been using the platform during the election period. It should make for an interesting look at how mobile technologies are being used to promote and enhance civic participation.
Let’s pull back the curtain for a minute. This is a great example of how I’ve tried to integrate technology coverage into the overall feel of the radio program. We’ve tried very hard to show that Technology is not a separate segment, but part and parcel of our ongoing coverage of major news stories. I got sick of hearing “and now for our TECHNOLOGY SEGMENT.” I could almost hear some listeners turning their dials. So — why not make the technology segment more engaging, timely and relevant to the news flow? Yes, exactly. Why not? After all, this stuff is important.
